SimpleMemberships released

Postby fabrizio on 27 Jun 2009, 09:19

Hi to all,
I just released my second Joomla! component, called SimpleMembership. You can download version 0.1ALPHA (yes, not yet a beta!) from the repository.
SimpleMemberships is aimed at sports and leisure clubs who want to manage their members. It is NOT a Joomla! membership manager (i.e. it does not manage the people who accesses your Joomla! site), and for now it is pretty basic: member data, lists and not much more.

Please note the following:
  1. There's a reason for it being called "Simple"Memberships: it is a simple component that will do simple things, like managing the subscriptions to your club/association. And I'd like it to be simple for a long time... No fancy interactive membership management, but pretty much basic stuff (yet useful). It was developed for my own needs (managing hte members of our R/C model airplanes club in Lugano, Switzerland), but I feel like it could be useful to others as well.
  2. VERY IMPORTANT: Do not use this component on a production site just yet. Too many bugs, too little features and absolutely no guarantee that things will not change, even dramatically, in future. Unlike I did for SimpleCalendar, I will not be providing "upgrade" packages of SimpleMemberships at the earliest stages of development. All new versions during the development phase (alpha and beta) will remove previous data, including DB tables, and start off with a fresh set. Upgrade packages will be available as soon as the application has reached an almost-complete-and-almost-stable development stage, but don't expect them anytime soon. If you, despite my warning, still would like use it on a production site, please note that I will not be providing support in installing or managing updates of the component, sorry about that, but I'm sure you understand.
  3. The component is in its earliest stage of development and will be improved (quite a lot) over time, however not immediately. Please do not expect a stable release before next year... I gladly accept all feature requests and bugs report (please post them in this forum, thank you), but be warned that it might take some time before they can actually be implemented.
  4. Also, there is at the moment no guarantee that it works with all Joomla! installations. Especially SEF/SEO URL rewriting has not been tested yet and I'm quite sure it doesn't work yet. No idea yet about incompatibilities with PHP, MySQL and Joomla! versions, as well... Thanks for all the feedback you can give me!
  5. Note to translators: although I appreciate it very much, please do not start to translate this component just yet. It is really buggy and many (many!) strings will change without notice, making your hard and appreciated work actually useless in a matter of weeks. I'll personally update the italian and english translation and will try to make it easy for translators to start working on the files: I'll post a notice when I'm ready to go.

I'd like to thank anyone that contributes to the improvement of this component through feedback. I hope that you like using the component as much as I have fun providing it to you. :)

Regards
Fabrizio

Hi Rickie,

SimpleMembership is not currently available. It is at its earliest stage of development and it has shown that it makes absolutely no sense to release it since most of the functions don't work as expected (or don't work at all). I plan on resume working on it as early as possible, but can't say for certain when that early will be.

Best regards
Fabrizio
