Answer
Since version 0.5b, SimpleCalendar has it's very own way of dealing with the upgrade. There's no need to delete all tables from the DB and start over from scratch, but SimpleCalendar can detect the installed configuration and upgrade all files and DB tables programmatically.
Until version 0.7.9b, SimpleCalendar had two packages that were called FRESH and UPGRADE. The FRESH package, deleted all tables prior to installing itself, so that the installed version was a clean one, whereas the UPGRADE package was designed to take an existing configuration and upgrade it to the latest version. Both involved uninstalling the component and reinstalling the new one.
Since version 0.7.11b (26 october 2009), SimpleCalendar will only have one UPGRADE package, there won't be any need to uninstall the previous version because SC will automatically upgrade it to the latest version upon installation. Due to this, SC won't delete any table on uninstallation: in order to delete the tables, please use the Delete DB TAbles switch in SC's admin backend Settings page.
Be VERY careful when using this switch, since it is saved when the calendar's still running. If you forget about this switch and uninstall SimpleCalendar, all of your data will be lost.
