Today, just out of curiosity, I started a google search for "com_simplecal". I wanted to see who was using my component, where, and why. Results where quite astonishing - from Argentina to Australia, com_simplecal (or "SimpleCalendar" as I prefer to call it) is used throughout the world - and that's only 1 month from its official launch (and 1.5 months starting from the day I wrote the first bit of PHP code)!! I am very happy to see that the component is deemed useful. I hope to be able to release all improvements that were suggested through the forum or by e-mail and to sort out every bug you kindly submit. While browsing to the dozens of site Google showed, I also noticed that some sites removed the compulsory copyright/donation footer. While I won't go into the detail of the request "please remove the donation line if you drop a couple of $$" (since, up to today, absolutely no donation has made it into my donations box, but that's no big problem...), I would like to ask everyone not to remove the copyright notice at the bottom, that's the "(c) 2009 Fabrizio Albonico" and the link to my site. I managed to find a few sites that removed the piece of code at the bottom of my pages. I like the idea that if someone browsing your site finds the component useful, that he is able to come here and download it right away. If you think the copyright footer is too big, please send me an e-mail or post in the forum, I'm pretty sure we'll find a solution that satisfies everyone. I think free software is cool and I encourage everyone to try my small products and use them to their satisfaction. But, please, credit the work of someone who's invested many days (and many more nights) into the development and is nothing but happy to see that his work is being appreciated throughout the world. Thank you very much! |
